A weird side effect of working with Mark Bryan of Hootie & The Blowfish is having to deal with pre-conceptions about Hootie. With that said, I want to express my incredible excitement about the new solo album Midlife Priceless that Mark will release next year. The first single "Wanna Feel Something" is streaming over at American Songwriter today along with an interview with Mark where he talks in his heartfelt way about how this song was inspired by being back out on the road again with his brothers. The guitar solo is bonkers awesome!
When I first heard this latest single from Blesson Roy (the erstwhile 4AD, Creation Records, Rough Trade Records-influenced man of many studio tricks, Terry Borden), I heard something that would sound just fine in a stadium. "Thousand" is a pretty personal love song, actually, but people fall in love in stadiums, so I think that's okay. Debut album Think Like Spring is out Nov. 27th on Slow Start Records! Mark Pellington's gorgeous 10-minute music film "Just Wait" by Nada Surf is streaming now over at Rolling Stone or at the link below. Filmed globally in three cities, Cambridge (UK), Los Angeles, and Sydney, Pellington calls the work, “a labor of love inspired by Matthew Caws (of Nada Surf)’s late father Peter’s profound meditations."
This morning, I want to post about the new single from D.B. Rouse, which is a tribute to his hometown of Neenah, Wisconsin. Neenah is a virus hotspot now and "Talkin' Neenah Blues" is D.B.'s way of reaching out to his peeps with some needed love. "In just under two minutes, Blesson Roy have managed to write one of the catchiest numbers of the year," says Stereo Embers Magazine in its premiere of "Stays With You," the latest dope lyric video that Hector at Subharmonic City Productions has landed. Hector says, "That’s my bird, my son in the ghost costume, the deer at my mom’s house, my nephews in the pool. I have this thing about people seeing my stuff and saying, 'he got that from this other place!' So, hopefully it all shows in the final product in a completely original form." The debut Blesson Roy album Think Like Spring is out Nov. 27th on Slow Start Records.

Director Mark Pellington has had more influence on pop culture than most rock stars; He’s worked with most of them, too.
If you ask, “What’s one word that comes to mind when you say ‘Pearl Jam,’” the answer may very well be “Jeremy.” This past summer, as reported by Variety, Pearl Jam officially released the uncensored version of their groundbreaking video, which MTV originally refused to air at the time of its release.
“I am addicted to images, and addicted to the creation of them,” Pellington says. “I adore the creation of imagery from imagination, allowing and accessing the subconscious to formulate the image created in collaboration with others. A music video is like a poem, a free form often-direct access to my subconscious.”
In 2020, Pellington continues to do just that with a new long-form video on tap for esteemed indie rock band Nada Surf, which has just wrapped post-production for a scheduled late October release.
"Mike Viola has spent a large part of his career making music with others and for others. His newest single, 'Ordinary Girl,' off his forthcoming album, Godmuffin, is one of a handful of new tracks the pop-rock musician wrote by himself and for himself. Well, actually, he wrote it for his daughters, who both sing background vocals on the track." Check it out over at American Songwriter!
Beyond proud of Mark Bryan and Midlife Priceless, the album he's going to be delivering next year. We've got a bunch of singles coming your way first, including tunes co-written with Wyatt Durrette (Luke Combs, Zac Brown Band), and Stephen Fiore (Young Mister), along with the first official single "Wanna Feel Something," out Oct. 30th. For the Hootie & The Blowfish fans, Mark closes the album with a vocal and acoustic guitar version of the band's 1998 song "Wishing" and Americana Highways has just posted it up!
