Mike Viola gets a feature in his hometown paper, the Patriot-Ledger

FEATURE

“So, there you are, filming your latest music video, made up as a vampire floating around Mandy Moore’s swimming pool in Los Angeles."

The Patriot-Ledger - which has been serving Massachusetts’ South Shore since 1837 and was once Mike Viola’s local paper - recently spoke with Viola about how far he’s come since he was “a Stoughton teenager cutting his musical teeth playing innumerable gigs at the old Scotch and Sounds Lounge at Westgate Lanes in Brockton." Mike's new album Godmuffin is out now from Grandphony.

See the video for "World To Save," the "airy and poignant" song from frigidkitty, on Glide

PREMIERE

Congratulations to frigidkitty on the release of Indulgence, out today on Desperate Spirits. Glide Magazine has the video premiere for the dreamy “World To Save.”

On the track, Kim Conlee “lets her airy and poignant vocals come front and center and hover over the music,” the site writes. “At its core, this is slow-burning pop music with a touch of Americana, which might come to mind given the visuals that feature Conlee driving through sunny pastures in a cowboy hat and serenading us in front of a darkly lit desert landscape.” Directed by Danny Coy.

PREMIERE

Under The Radar just shared the new video for Charlie Belle’s “What About Me?” According to the site, “The duo's tried-and-true instrumental combination belies their great ear for hooks and more mature songwriting sensibilities… [With “What About Me?”] the duo create a charmingly DIY take on a lyric video. Jendayi writes out the lyrics out in time with the song as Gyasi contributes some on the spot drumming, marker illustrations, and a few games of hangman.”

Magnet premieres Mike Viola's new lyric video, which reminds us that time is but a construct

PREMIERE

Of his song “We May Never Be This Young Again,” Mike Viola tells MAGNET, “the overriding idea is that time is a construct. The past is right here, and it’s available to me. It’s not nostalgia—it’s the sights and sounds and tactile elements of my formative years. You can look through everything, and it’s a mess, but you can access that stuff. I think that comes with age.”

The site has the lyric video for the track, which Viola compiled using footage from his days in The Candy Butchers.

ALBUM REVIEW

AllMusic just awarded four stars to Ecstasy Rhymes, the newest LP from The High Water Marks, calling it “a stripped down and almost punky take on the Elephant 6 sound that Hilarie Sidney helped invent."

It’s “the band’s best album to date… not only a blast from the past but it also sounds completely fresh while showing just how powerfully enjoyable simple indie pop can be when played with this much energy and joy.”
