"In a world of overstuffed compositions and performances, this is a wonderfully restrained and sparse moment," says PopMatters today of this studio performance video from Kathleen Grace and Larry Goldings. The song is the 1937 classic "Where Or When," shot live in one take and featuring Goldings on this cool bit of kit called the Pocket Piano. The album version appears on the collaborative release Tie Me To You, out April 17th.
Figg, the Seattle-based duo of Robin Peringer and Gilden Tunador, was originally scheduled to release its debut album a decade ago. Peringer’s musical past is like a giant quilt of the Northwest music scene, having played guitar in Modest Mouse, 764-HERO, Love as Laughter and many more luminaries of the region.
When he teamed up with Tunador, the duo found local admiration and ultimately national attention as part of the (intentionally misspelled) band Carissa’s Wierd.
It seemed like the right moment for Figg’s debut. Unfortunately shoved, then shelved, the album’s champions went away, a music industry story heard too many times. Jump to a decade later, and now, a new moment has emerged for Peringer and Tunador.
Figg’s self-titled debut, sounding fresh as ever, will finally see a national record release, following a brief stint online that earned the album's lead track a 2017 "Song of The Day" nod from Seattle's KEXP, on June 12th, 2020.
Kathleen Grace will release her collaborative album with Grammy®-nominated jazz pianist Larry Goldings on April 17th. The album, Tie Me To You, is comprised of their unique take on some classics, but this tune, "Everywhere" is a Grace original. American Songwriter has the premiere today, the song will be streaming everywhere this Friday.

Alex Lilly's 2% Milk (the album) came out in early 2019 and now Billboard premieres "2% Milk" (the video) which features "synchronized swimmers, '50s America and an alien arrival." Along with her own music, Alex recently co-wrote much of Samantha Sidley's debut album, has been a member of Beck and Lorde's bands, and also takes on projects like arranging a 50-person, all-female choir for this piece (http://bit.ly/ALEX-50) spotlighting the lack of female producers in popular music. What's "Butterfly In My Ass" about? Samantha Sidley's wife, producer, drummer, and co-writer of the song (with Alex Lilly), Barbara Gruska, explains: “My grandmother gave my grandfather a painting of a naked woman, which got passed down to my mom, and then to Sam and me. We went to pick it up, and there was a piece of paper at the bottom, covering something. I asked my mom about it and she said, ‘Apparently there’s a lewd sentence on the painting.’ When I unscrewed the frame and pulled the paper out, Sam and I giddily read the sentence aloud: ‘I have a butterfly in my ass.’ Jackpot!” Watch Sam perform it for Paste Magazine.
