Bio (Continued): Following the release of their self titled EP, the band was selected to play Drop Dead Music Festival in 2006 at the Knitting Factory in New York alongside headliner Lene Lovich. In 2007, upon completing their first full-length record Violent Heartstrings, they performed at a series of venues on the east coast in addition to playing both the Popnoise Music Festival and Winterfest in Philadelphia.
With their third release, the EP Live and Burn, The Opposite Sex appeals to a broader audience, while still maintaining a dark persona. "Leave It All Behind" begins with an icy, emotional verse that breaks into a catchy, unforgettable chorus. For fans of their previous material, songs like "Same Big Bang" and "Frozen Heart/ Frozen Mind" depict a strange anxiety, over layered textures of aggressive guitars and drums. Live and Burn invites the listener to share a personal experience with a little nostalgia.
The Opposite Sex has been featured on Radar Report, an XM Radio program dedicated to seeking out the best new alternative artists. The band has also performed with such well known artists as New Model Army, and The Ocean Blue and is currently preparing for an east coast tour to support the Live and Burn EP.
Press Quotes: "The fondest affections are reserved for those new and exciting bands that seem to appear out of thin air; majestic, powerful, and ready to take on the current scene with rare fury. The Opposite Sex is that sort of band, through and through." - Postpunk.com
"The Opposite Sex is a steadily rising star." - ReGen Magazine "They have a certain maturity and could even develop their sound a bit further to reach a wider audience because there is a market for such band." - Side-Line Music Magazine "With a sound deeply layered with pulsating guitars and a tight rhythm section led by an infectious bass tremolo, lead singer Shawn Helton sounds like a melodramatically electrifying combination of post-punk legends Mark Burgess and Ian McCulloch." - Obscure Sound Music Blog
"Always intense and unhinged, even during the most musical of vocal lines grit and growls rip and tear their way through the aural fabric of a song, breaking up melodies that may otherwise have been too pretty, too sweet." - Big Takeover Magazine "There's an epic, heartfelt mood to the music." - Hard Wired Magazine "The Opposite Sex have come up with a spiky punchy sound that works rather well." - Nemesis To Go Music Blog
"With The Opposite Sex you're too busy going down your checklist. Lively, tick. Passionate, tick. Intense, tick. Interesting, tick. Look liable to enjoy ticking things, tick." - Mick Mercer "These fellows obviously love their work, and it lends a palpable air of excitement to their shows. You can't help but dance along." - Drop Dead Magazine
